On June 6, 2001 a non-profit Corporation was formed to preserve the original buildings remaining on the West Side property. In 2002 the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians purchased the 320 acre property. There plans called for an 18-hole golf course, commercial center, homes and possibly a hotel. The original members who formed the non-profit abandoned the Preservation efforts. Myself and a few others are in the process of restarting it. I have met with the Tribe and the Tuolumne Economic Development Authority (TEDA) and discussed our plans. They have expressed interest and we are currently working on a Proposal to present to them. This Proposal includes; building a new structure, resembling the original two stall engine house, using some of the existing wood siding. This structure will house a Living History Museum, displaying original WS artifacts, including the Corliss Steam Engine used to run the mill, Steam Donkeys, WS rolling stock, photographs and more. | Photo of the once H.H & YV RR dispatcher office. The warehouse which was to the right of the building has been torn down. The engine house built by Glenn Bell is just behind the dispatcher office. | Looking across the mill pond to the mill dump. The actual mill would me to the right where there is now an island. Also located in the mill pond is the original hoist house. |
